What I reckon about Firefly

Firefly is one of those shows that lasted long enough to tell a good story, even if it could have lasted a lot longer.

My favourite episode is "Out of Gas", the first episode I actually saw, when Firefly was actually on the air even.  The deathly silence and isolation of space was hit spot on in this one, and it sold me instantly.  After I saw more of the series, I came to better appreciate the backstory sequences. "The Message" says a fair bit about Mal and Zoe's past, as does "Safe" for River and Simon.  The bits we hear about the rest of the gang come from "Out of Gas".  I especially liked how Kaylee got the job.

As far as the film goes, I liked it, but the victory was pyrrhic.  "Objects in Space" did a lot more to end the show emotionally

The movie was ok, but in a lot of ways the things that made the series so charming were lost in the movie.

Exactly; the soundtrack for the film was too much industrial and not enough country/folk.  That was what I missed most about the whole thing.  And the tack-on of a supporting character didn't really endear me to the movie, either.

When the show was on, I watched it every chance I got, but I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that it was a western/sci-fi. It actually took the movie to convert me. Now I've got the first release Special Edition of the movie, the series and the ship ornament.

I kind of liked that it was essentially a horse opera in space.  It amused me.
